“I’m confident that there’s no shortage of great up-and-coming scientists and engineers” – March 2019 winners’ blog posts

After every event we ask the winning engineers to write a short post to be sent to all the students who took part in the zone. It’s the perfect way for the engineers to reflect on the previous two weeks, thank all the students for voting for them, and talk about how they plan to use their €500 prize money.

If you’re an engineer keen to experience the ‘best crash course in scicomm’, apply now for the next event, at imanengineer.ie/engineer-apply

Kevin O’Brien, Becton Dickinson, Health Zone

I was impressed by the level of the questions from the students, both in the live chats and in the “Ask” section. I’m confident that there’s no shortage of great up-and-coming scientists and engineers to fill the many roles that continue to be created in STEM industries and institutions across Ireland.
I’d like to thank all of the students who took part, and their teachers for signing up their classes. You made this the enjoyable experience that it was, with great engagement, and technical questions that regularly challenged the engineers’ knowledge.

Diana Abrunhosa, Arup, Production Zone

Some questions were really challenging and I would like to thank all the students for their engagement in the chats, I hope I had answered all of your questions and hopefully you will know a bit more about engineering! Thank you all for voting for me, it is really rewarding when I got some messages during the last chat saying that my job was the most important one, get clean water for all!

Stephen O’Connor, European Space Agency, Space Zone

To all the school students and teachers – thank you so much for posting your amazing questions in ASK and CHAT. I’m still thinking about many of them, and there were some that we could talk all day about! I encourage you to keep reading and discussing these ideas with your classmates, friends, and family. There is so much information available online and in your local libraries – use them! Remember, it’s okay not to be sure what you want in life, but whatever you decide to do, make sure you give it your all!

If you’re up for the challenge, want to answer some downright weird questions, even learn things from students…
