Robotics Zone Report – Feb-March 2018

This was the quietest zone in this event with the lowest number of students logging in and questions in Ask. We assigned places to 14 schools, but only were six able to take part because of the weather disruption.

Some teachers did hand out login cards so interested students could log in from home and use ASK section, and three students made use of the evening chat for families on the final Thursday.

February – March 2018 Winners blog posts

After every event we ask the winning engineers to write a short post to be sent to all the students who took part in the zone.

It’s the perfect way for the engineers to reflect on the previous two weeks, thank all the students for voting for them, and talk about how they plan to use their €500 prize money.

NCOP & HE Outreach

The I’m a Scientist project has been running for a long time. Since 2014, over 54,000 students have directly interacted with more than 700 scientists and experts. Fair access has always been at the heart of what we do. Find out more about what widening participation means to us.

Linking STEM outreach with widening participation in HE:

I’m a Scientist has a focus on STEM and what it means to be a scientist. We know that many science careers require a degree, and a quick look at the national careers service science and research job profiles confirms that. Over 80% of the jobs listed would normally require a degree.

Widening Participation

Under-served and Widening Participation Schools

Here at I’m an Engineer we want to connect students with STEM professionals. Our events are all about providing an environment that allows, and encourages, school students to have real interactions with scientists and engineers.

Why? Because nearly 80% of UK students value science, but less than 20% feel it is for them [Aspires]. That’s something we want to change, and students interacting with relatable scientists is a great way to encourage the view that anyone can be an engineer.
