Science Foundation Ireland

Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) is the national foundation for research in Ireland. It advances co-operative efforts among education, government and industry that support its fields of emphasis and promotes Ireland’s reputation for science and engineering research.

SFI promotes and supports the study of, education in, and engagement with science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) and promotes an awareness and understanding of the value of STEM to society and, in particular, to the growth of the economy.

In 2020/21, SFI funded the Red Zone in November 2020 (part of I’m a Scientist, Get me out of here), as well as the Kilogram Zone in March 2021.

Previous Zones funded by SFI: Automation Zone and Environment Zone in March 2020, Production Zone and Space Zone in March 2019, Robotics Zone and Space Zone in March 2018, Energy Zone and Space Zone in March 2017, Coding Zone and Space Zone in February 2016, Metre Zone in November 2015, Boole Zone in February 2015, and Energy Zone and Kelvin Zone in November 2014.

Wellcome TrustWellcome Trust

The Wellcome Trust are dedicated to achieving extraordinary improvements in human and animal health. They support the brightest minds in biomedical research and the medical humanities. Wellcome’s public engagement grants are intended to promote interest, excitement and debate around science and engineering in society.

Previous Zones funded by Wellcome Trust: Health Zone in March 2020, Health Zone in March 2019, Health Zone in March 2018, and the Health Zone in March 2017.

Science Foundation Ireland’s Discover Programme

Science Foundation Ireland is the national foundation for research in Ireland. It advances co-operative efforts among education, government and industry that support its fields of emphasis and promotes Ireland’s reputation for science and engineering research.

The Discover Programme aims to increase interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) among students, teachers and members of the public. Previous zones they have funded: Space Zone 2017, Space Zone 2018, Production Zone, Robotics Zone.
